At the heart of the action of this very special neighbourhood, The Beat will be the main crossroads of Spring Creek – a defining aspect in the sense of arrival as traffic enters through Spring Creek Gate and transitions through The Beat onto either end of Spring Creek Drive.
Designed with pedestrian friendliness in mind, a one-way lane will wrap around The Beat, providing access to the commercial uses along ist north and east facades. The sidewalks will be especially wide along these commercial frontages, as the pedestrian is paramount.
In addition to the numerous pedestrian crossings made safer and with pavement changes “pedestrian bulbs” will replace parking lanes at intersections in The Beat (as they do elsewhere throughout Spring Creek). Around The Beat, billboards, pavement patterns and street furniture delineate the areas accessible to vehicles and will maintain the pedestrian priority.
At the centre of The Beat will be a landscaped park whose summertime water feature will become a skating pond in winter. As the focal point of the neighbourhood, the water park will be readily accessible through a connection to the neighbourhood trail system at the southwest corner of The Beat.
