When she’s not taking care of our homeowners, Jennifer trains at a national level for cross-triathlons.
Originally from Wetaskiwin, Alta., Jennifer was working in health care and training to compete as a cross-triathlete when she relocated to the Bow Valley.
“I had been looking to make a change for a long time,” she says. “I took the leap and moved here at the beginning of the year.”
With more than a decade of experience as an event planner, Jennifer applied for the position with Spring Creek. She loves to work with people and the role was a perfect fit for her skills. Planning events during the pandemic was a challenge, she says, but it is one she was ready, willing, and able to overcome.
Being creative and finding innovative ways to engage people over the past year was fulfilling work and helped to build community during trying times.
“We got pretty creative this year and started out with more online-based events, or what families could do in their cohort,” she says.
Project Spread the Love made an impression on the new Canmore resident. Spring Creek residents were provided with do-it-yourself, heart-shaped crochet kits and a card that could be attached to share a message of hope.
Those crafted hearts were then placed throughout the community to spread the love.
The annual outdoor block party was also held in July and was a huge success. After more than a year of social distancing, she says to be able to celebrate the community and gather outdoors as residents of Spring Creek was truly enjoyable.
Looking forward to 2022, she hopes to be able to plan more in-person events for Spring Creek.
“Hopefully we will be able to have some real events and if that doesn’t happen, I love getting the creative juices flowing,” she says.
“Whether in person events, or not, we will figure something out.”
Outside of work, Jennifer has been training for the past three years to compete in cross-triathlons.
Just like a regular triathlon, they involve running, biking, and swimming, but incorporate mountain biking and trail running instead.
Jennifer qualified in 2020 for Age Group Team Canada in the sport, but COVID resulted in the ITU World Multisport Championships for cross-triathlon being indefinitely postponed.
In September, she travelled to Victoria to compete in the qualifier for Xterra World Championship and was successful in finishing the race before the cut off.
As part of the Spring Creek family, Jennifer has an entire neighbourhood in her corner cheering for her success in future competitions.
